Harbor Cottage and Guest House

Martinsville

Maine

Harbor Cottage and Guest House are located on the peninsula formed by the St George River, named by Captain Weymouth in 1605 after the patron saint of England. The property is in Martinsville between Tenants Harbor, with its protected deep sailing waters, and Port Clyde, a working fishing and lobstering village. Ferries to Monhegan Island, known for its artists’ colony, soaring cliffs and pine and spruce forests, depart several times a day from Port Clyde. Marshall Point lighthouse, known to many from the movie Forrest Gump, is still operational, guarding the rocky entrance to Port Clyde’s beautiful harbor and village.

Nearby towns include the bustling waterfront commercial centre of Rockland, which has many good restaurants, (see links below) a renowned second-hand bookstore and coffee shop, gourmet stores and supermarkets. Rockland is also the home of The Farnsworth Museum and Wyeth Center. A little further up the coast is the beautiful deep-water harbor town of Camden, home of Maine’s fleet of historic tall-masted schooners.

Within easy reach for a day trip are many wonderful Maine experiences – ferries to the quintessential Maine islands of Islesboro, North Haven and Vinalhaven depart regularly from Rockland; a drive north takes you to the ancient fort site at Castine, to Blue Hill, and on to Acadia National Park. A drive south takes you to Wiscasset with it fine 18th century village houses and antique stores, Freeport, home of the famous LL Bean store, and Portland, a small, vibrant waterfront city.
